Help Guide for crossing the border of Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia

This is a short help guide with informations from officials authorities from Romania, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

If you’re trying to cross the border to Romania, you need to know the following:

  1. With/without passport and visa: You can enter in Romania without biometrical passport or visa. Also, you can enter in Romania with a normal passport only and without any type of passport, based on application for asylum.
  2. Asylum: You can apply for asylum.
  3. Accommodation: Refugees camps are being set up in the following cities: Maramures, Suceava, Botosani and Iasi. Also, Ukrainians refugees will be provided with medical assistance. There are many peoples who are offering places for Ukrainians refugees here, on www.refugees.ro.

If you’re trying to cross the border to Poland, you need to know the following:

  1. With/without passport and visa: You can enter Poland without biometrical passport, but you need visa or to apply for asylum. Also, you can enter in Poland with a normal passport only, with ID card or even without ID card.
  2. Asylum: You can apply for asylum.
  3. Accommodation: Refugees camps are being set up in different locations, based on official informations. You can view the full list here: Pomoc dla obywateli Ukrainy – Urząd do Spraw Cudzoziemców – Portal Gov.pl (www.gov.pl). There are many peoples who are offering places for Ukrainians refugees here, on www.refugees.ro.

  6. Border cross points: All border cross points with Ukraine are open. Border cross points here

If you’re trying to cross the border to Hungary, you need to know the following:

  1. With/without passport and visa: You can enter Poland with biometrical passport and free of visa. With other type of passport, you will need visa. You cannot enter in Hungary with ID card. However, you can enter in Hungary without ID card or passport if you’re applying for asylum.
  2. Asylum: You can apply for asylum.
  3. Accommodation: Refugees camps are being set up in different locations, based on official informations. You can view the full list here: Pomoc dla obywateli Ukrainy – Urząd do Spraw Cudzoziemców – Portal Gov.pl (www.gov.pl). There are many peoples who are offering places for Ukrainians refugees here, on www.refugees.ro.

  5. Covid restrictions: No.
  6. Border cross points: All border cross points with Ukraine are open. However, men between age 18 – 60 cannot pass, except of  double-citizen men with a non-Ukrainian passport valid.

If you’re trying to cross the border to Slovakia you need to know the following:

  1. With/without passport and visa: You can enter Slovakia with biometrical passport or other type of passport and free of visa. You can enter in Slovakia with ID card after an individual assessment.
  2. Asylum: You can apply for asylum.
  3. Accommodation: Refugees camps are being set up in different locations like municipalities, detention centres or public buildings, based on official informations There are many peoples who are offering places for Ukrainians refugees here, on www.refugees.ro. Non-profits organisations offers support as well.

  5. Covid restrictions: No.
  6. Border cross points: All border cross points with Ukraine are open except the railwayborder crossing point Čierna nad Tisou – Čop, where passenger traffic has been stopped.
